Critical thinking and logic are ways that people can more efficiently organize their thoughts to better analyze and problem solve issues faced in everyday life.  For your initial post this week, why do you believe critical thinking is important both for you, and people in general. Also, what are the potential benefits of better developing your critical thinking skills?

In Chapter 13, the author discusses “Egoism, Pleasure, and Indifference.” Your assignment is to write about one of the following ethical theories:

1. Ethical egoism

2. Hedonism

3. Stoicism

Your written response is a critical review of the theory, and its application to ethical and unethical behavior in the criminal justice system. Your information must be supported by additional research and written at a graduate level. Your response must include how this theory is applied to the field of criminal justice.

Your paper should go beyond the obvious and must be no less than 1200 words. You must use no less than three additional resources (other than your required text) that support your position. All resources used must be properly cited using the APA style.

For credit, in your response, you must include at least three journal articles that support your information. The journal articles to be used must come from the Saint Leo University Online Library. Overview: When you are in a market and researching if and how new technologies can help your business, it is important to examine what your competitors are doing with the same technologies, and how successful they are implementing them. This assignment is the second milestone that you will complete for your final project. In this milestone, you will address the following:

· You will begin drafting parts of your final project, focusing on your business requirements, competitors, and technology.

· This assignment is an important practice opportunity for you to create a draft, and to get feedback from your instructor to improve your final draft.

· The rubric reflects that this is a practice opportunity. You should focus on getting the necessary information into your draft. No draft is perfect.

· This milestone aligns with sections I, II, and III of your final project. Use the questions in the critical elements as a guide.

· You are free to work in the Final Project Template document or on a separate word document for your drafts.

Prompt: Remember that you have immersed yourself in the role of an IT professional. Imagine that you work for the small brick-and-mortar business described in the final project case scenario. Research the websites and choose an incident a LODD in a single family dwelling fire.  Write a 2-3 page APA research paper.  Summarize the incident, explain what went wrong, discuss the factors leading to the LODD, and lessons learned from the incident.

Recently, a report was published describing a string of cases of Norwalk virus gastroenteritis among passengers on cruise ships. From this report, an epidemiologist went on to form a number of hypotheses as to why there had been this rather unusual increase in reported gastroenteritis outbreaks on cruise ships in 2012. The cruise ship owners contacted the Centers of Disease control and Prevention (CDC) to conduct an in-depth analysis of the possible modes of transmission of the Norwalk virus in the cruise ship environment. CDC investigators interviewed all of the passengers on the last affected cruise (N=3,000) and obtained information on the passenger’s recreational activities. They found the following results: 1,000 passengers had gone swimming in the upper deck pool and 2,000 passengers had never gone swimming in the upper deck pool. 100 of the passengers who swam in the upper deck pool and 100 of the passengers who did not swim in this pool developed Norwalk virus gastroenteritis during the cruise. FYI: The cruise lasted one week.

Recently, Australian researchers conducted a study of the relationship between optimism and colon cancer survival. Their hypothesis was that colon cancer patients who had a positive outlook on life would have a lower five-year cumulative incidence of mortality. The study included 100 recently diagnosed colon cancer patients who underwent psychological testing and were found to have a optimistic outlook on life and 100 recently diagnosed colon cancer patients who underwent the same psychological tests and were found to have a pessimistic outlook on life. By the end of five years of follow-up, 50 of the 100 patients with the optimistic outlook and 75 of the 100 patients with the pessimistic outlook had died from colon cancer.
