As part of the mythology unit AND as the essay section of the final exam for this class, you will be responsible for a writing assignment that is based on Chapters 1-12 in the mythology book.

This writing assignment will be an essay-type task–no particular mode will be focused upon for this. You will simply develop an academic essay in response to a particular essay question concerning the mythology chapters assigned for class.

The essay must have an effective introduction that allows the audience to understand what the focus of the essay is, a very well developed body section that fully develops and supports the chosen topic (3 separate examples), and a conclusion that effectively wraps up the essay.

You must use third-person point of view when writing this essay. Do not use first-person (I) or second-person (you) points of view.

The three possible topics are listed on this assignment sheet.

Please select one of the topics to develop into a 2-3 page (double-spaced) paper.

No cover sheet is needed, but you do need to make sure your name is on the first page and provide a title on the first page.

Again, be sure you note how this assignment will count.

You will want to use your mythology books to write this essay.

You may want to use a dictionary and/or thesaurus for this task.

You DO NOT have to submit this writing to Smarthinking, unless you want to do so. It is not a requirement for this task.

This is what I will be looking for when I grade this assignment.

The evaluation criteria:

1. Does the writer answer the question fully?

2. Are there at least 3 specific examples from the reading given in the body section for support?

3. Is the essay well organized so that it is easy to read and understand?

4. Does the essay have an introduction, body and conclusion?

5. Has the writer carefully revised and proofread the essay so that there are little or no errors that hinder the reader’s understanding?

6. Are the writing style and mechanics up to the expectations of a college writing class?

You will receive one grade that takes into consideration both grammar and content, but this grade will be recorded twice in the paper category.

******Remember, this grade will count as your last paper grade (twice), AND it will count as a possible 50 points toward your final exam.

Pick one of the following to develop into an essay.

Topic Choices
