You are the hospital administrator in a medium-sized, urban, for-profit hospital that caters to middle-income groups. You wonder if patients’ satisfaction with the hospital stay will increase significantly if they are given better and more flexible meal options. You decide to conduct a research study to find the answer. The first step is to design the study.

Design a descriptive study to investigate if better meal options will increase patient satisfaction. Include the following elements of design:

  1. Develop a research question or purpose of the study
  2. Selection of subjects for study (what is the sample)
  3. Assignment of subjects to experimental or control groups
  4. Study time period
  5. Type of data to be gathered
  6. Measures of meal options and of patient satisfaction
  7. Method of data collection
  8. Guidelines for data interpretation

After you complete building the study design, list three design elements you considered in your study that were not readily obvious in the one you read last week “Diagnosed with Breast Cancer While on a Family History Screening Programme: An Exploratory Qualitative Study.”

By Sunday, February 1, 2015, submit your study design and list of three identified design elements in a word document.

Cite relevant sources in the APA format on a separate page.

Many people believe that superstitions are absolutely true. This often causes them to believe and act in ways that are out of the norm either to avoid a negative outcome or to bring about a positive outcome. However, the origins of all superstitions lie in operant conditioning (for example, wearing the same shirt worn during a victory game to all future games in order to ensure victory).

In this assignment, you will examine the process by which operant conditioning can lead to the formation of a superstition.

Using the module readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research the development of operant conditioning and its basic principles. Then, address the following:

  • Describe the historical antecedents of operant conditioning. What factors led to the rise of operant conditioning?
  • Describe the principles/concepts which can be applied to explain the process by which operant conditioning can lead to the development and maintenance of superstitions.
  • Brainstorm to come up with a number of superstitions you may have heard or read about. Using your knowledge and vocabulary of operant conditioning, choose one of these superstitions. Then, describe in detail, the thinking processes involved that resulted in the acquisition and perpetuation of this irrational belief.
  • Describe a specific aspect of the operant conditioning process that leads to these beliefs becoming so deeply ingrained and long standing in nature.
  • Explain whether a person can ever be rid of superstitions. What methods can be used to help such a person?
  • Interview a family member or friend to discover a superstition that he or she believes in. Explain the nature of the event that led to the formation of this superstition. Does this information fit with your understanding of how the operant conditioning process results in the development of superstitions? Why or why not?

Write a 3–4-page paper in Word format. The paper should be double-spaced and in 12 point, Times New Roman font with regular one-inch margins and free of typographical and grammatical errors. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Be sure to include a title page and a reference page. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.doc.

In order for students to learn they must be in an environment where they feel comfortable and safe. In addition, the environment should consider “physical conditions such as temperature, noise, and lighting (Meeks et al., 2012, p.17). The temperature should be comfortable, the classroom should not be too loud and the room should be well lit. The teacher should be sure to provide students with an environment that fits the description above. The teacher should also teach students about a variety of health topics from, nutrition, substance abuse, sex education, etc.. The teacher should collaborate with families, school staff, and community members to provide the most comprehensive health education and services. When students develop healthy relationships with family, friends, school personnel, and are active in their community they are more likely to be engaged at school, make healthy choices, and have higher self-esteem. The Responsible Decision Making Model and the Resistance Skills Model help promote healthy living by having students think about the decisions they are making and the consequences that will come from those decisions. For example, a student might find themselves in a situation where they see one student bullying another. The student has three options: join the bully, help the person being bullied, or simply stand by and watch the situation unfold. If the students thinks about the consequences for each possible option they will realize that joining the bully or simply standing by is not safe, respectful, healthy, or displays good character. In a situation like this the best outcome would be for the student to help the person being bullied or at the very least go tell a responsible adult. If the student were to use the model they would be more likely to make the most healthful choice, helping the victim and telling an adult.

#2

As many others have stated I think it is so important to gain buy in from many stakeholders within the schools walls.  Not only do the students play an important role but the students and other staff members do as well.  It is very important to promote healthy choices and a healthy school environment for everyone at the school and districts sights.  I never realized how important and significant Health Education was until I took this course.  I didn’t realize how many different ways you can integrate health into every lesson plan.  It truly is such an important topic to go over with every student no matter his or her age.

A perfect example for promoting healthy living and choices is putting the students in tough real life peer pressure situations.  This situations can included practicing safe sex, drug and alcohol abuse, or even bullying.  These situations will help students not give in to peer pressure.  By helping guide students towards the right direction is always something we can work on.  Making sure students realize there are both positive and negative consequences for their actions is extremely important at any age.  The Responsible Decision Making Model will help outline the important details of this very important concept and model.  I will continue to use my resources to help gain knowledge in this area and promote healthy lifestyles within my lesson plans.
