What I found very interesting about Congresswoman Diane Black is the   wide variety of nursing fields that she worked in prior to becoming a   Congresswoman.  She began her nursing career as an ER nurse,   worked as a long-term care nurse and on an outpatient surgery team   (American Nurses Association, 2017).  These roles and positions   in and out of the hospital setting gave her needed experience and   knowledge to be a competent Congresswoman.  In one of the   hospitals I worked at in Springfield, Illinois, the current CEO rose   from the ranks of a nurse.  He was very compassionate to the   patients and extremely understanding of the staff since he had been a   floor nurse in that hospital himself.  He was very well respected   and had earned that respect.

Our current Secretary of Education appointed under President Trump   is Michigan billionaire Betsy DeVos.  This nomination outraged   many people because she had never held a position within public school   systems.  Her critics feel she wants to privatize the public   education system and grow the charter and private schools (Strauss,   2017).  I feel one reason Congresswoman Black is successful   because her constituents can relate to her and she relates to   them.
