- Please complete one observation of teaching in a school. You should observe in the classroomfor a minimum of 40 minutes. Ask the teacher’s permission to observe. Tell him/her that you are in a class where you are learning how to collect data on teaching. Be sure that the teacher knows you will be taking notes during your observation. Prior to your observation, conduct a pre-observation conference with the teacher and find out what the teachers says will be the objectives of the lesson. Decide what data you are likely to see and be prepared to collect it.
Your only purpose is to practice data collection, not to evaluate or supervise. Keep your data collection from the class observation and your post-conference confidential.
