Introduction
Professional shoplifters have been practicing their trade throughout recorded history. More recently, as the numbers of professional shoplifters has continued to increase and as their actions have culminated in retailers sustaining greater losses, retailers have focused additional attention on theft by organized groups. Many organizations are facing issues in respect to physical theft in the organization.

Theft continued to increase at an astounding rate, yet merchants were more concerned about problems associated with false arrest and were vehemently opposed to creating a hostile and intimidating atmosphere for their customers. Retailers were willing to lose merchandise to theft rather than lose good customers that might be stealing from them. (Segrave, 2001).
Organized Retail Theft (ORT) is a problem in the retail loss prevention industry. In spite of spending increases to develop and deploy effective merchandise protection strategies consumer theft continues to increase (Miller, 2005). The problem of ORT has negatively impacted consumers who must pay higher retail prices to cover the increased spending on loss prevention as well as the financial losses attributed to ORT. One possible cause of this problem is that retail loss prevention leaders continue to employ situational strategies that have not been evaluated for their effectiveness (Glasscock et al. 1998)
Thus the main problem that needs to be addressed in this research paper is the organizational physical theft.

THE EXPERIMENT:You’ll need:- tape measure- marble- masking tape- open inside space (can be carpet or hard surface)Clear a space – you’ll need about 6 metres long and about 2 metres wide.At one end mark a line (we stuck a bit of tape down on the carpet). Then mark a cross on the floor 4 metres away, with a clear circle of about 2m radius around the cross (again, we had a bit of tape on the floor) – ie don’t put the cross next to a wall.The task is to roll the marble towards the cross, aiming to have the marble stop right on the cross. The data of interest is the how close (in mm) to the cross your marble stops. 4 phases:1. Baseline. Measure and record very first roll – no practice rolls.2. Practice. Spend about 5 minutes having practice rolls (don’t bother measuring each practice). At the end of the 5 minutes measure and record the very next roll (even if it’s worse than all your practice rolls).3. Imagery. Sit down, relax, take some deep breaths. Holding the marble in your hand you are to spend 5 minutes imagining rolling the perfect roll. Make the imagining as realistic as possible. Feel the marble in your fingers, the carpet under your feet, see the layout of the room, the colours etc. Experience it as realistic as possible in your mind’s eye. Do that for 5 minutes, rolling perfect rolls every time. Then roll for real, measure and record. 4. Double-up. Roll twice, measuring both and noting which was first (so roll 1, roll 2, measure 1, measure 2).Send me your data: scores for each part, your gender and age. Send it by Saturday night to be included in the dataset.Then I will analyse the data and next week we will discuss it (see schedule) and you will write your report.
